North Melbourne Statistics and History
Founded in 1869 by cricketers wanting to keep warm in the winter months, the North Melbourne Football Club became known as the 'Kangaroos' in 1950. The team is the fourth oldest in the AFL.
The club became part of the VFL in 1925, and is characterised with a working-class background, and a determination to succeed, despite any odds.
The club's motto is Victoria amat curam, Latin for "Victory Demands Dedication".
The club holds four premierships, the most recent in 1999.
