Your Go-To Guide to Surviving Swiftie Season
We’re in our Taylor Swift Era at Bulk Nutrients
Alright alright, it truly is Swiftie Season.
Whether it’s a cruel summer for you or not, there’s no denying that it’s been a long time coming for Ms Taylor Swift to grace us with her presence in Australia. The Eras Tour movie was extremely popular late last year (I had a lot of fun eating far too much popcorn and dancing in my seat for three hours) but now it’s time for the lucky ones to experience it in person!
My manifestations for a secret show here in Tasmania are yet to come through, but I think the Grammy’s announcement of April 19’s The Tortured Poets Department will get me through the disappointment of not getting to go along to the Eras Tour.
With friendship bracelets made and the final touches being added to the outfits, thousands of Swifties and their parents will be descending on Melbourne and Sydney in the coming days, a sea of sequins and cowboy boots will take over the MCG and Accor Stadium.
While some of us will be sitting at our desks listening to the set list while our tears ricochet (me), that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be ready for it!
Here’s our handy dandy go-to guide to surviving the Eras Tour – or any other concert/festival you’re heading to in coming weeks!
You Play Stupid Games, You Win Stupid Prizes
(Is this blog post an excuse for me to listen to Taylor Swift non-stop at work? Maybe!)
One of the most important things you can do for the Eras Tour is wear comfy shoes. I know the appeal of heels or cute yet impractical cowboy boots to cinch together your outfit is strong, but you’re going to be dancing in your seat for hours… and that’s after the queue to get in.
Make sure you’ve worn in whatever shoes you’re wearing otherwise for you, you’re going to have to tolerate it – and the blisters!
A Lack of Hydration Will Be Your Anti-Hero
You will be outside, and it will be for a long time. Both stadiums are open air venues, meaning you’ll be out in the elements for the duration of the concert, and however long you’re in the line for.
Some of the concerts in the US saw people line up for hours to get in, and celebrations (aka Taylor-gating) outside for hours pre and post performance.
It’ll be a long day and you bet it’ll get sweaty – regardless of what the weather is (my thoughts are to the weather gods to make it perfect!) thousands of people packed into a stadium, singing/screaming and dancing, is a recipe for sweating up a storm.
In the days leading up to the Taylor Swift concerts, make sure you’re preparing your body!
Nourish it with things that make you feel good like fruits and vegetables (it’ll also make those hot chips at the stadium taste that much better!) and make sure you think about getting enough electrolytes and other essential vitamins and minerals.
Electrolytes are lost through sweat, whether it’s exercise-induced (dancing included!) or through general activity. Replenishing them throughout the day is important to be sure you’re performing at your best, while watching Taylor performing at hers!
If you haven’t tried our Protein Water yet, ‘tis the damn season! It’s packed with protein from collagen and Whey Protein Isolate, with BCAAs and Electrolytes that will help keep you hydrated and recover easier from any dancing-related muscle soreness the next day! It also comes in three great flavours and just makes water more fun! (It’s $49 for 40 serves, so no need to give your blood sweat and tears for this!)
There’s a fine line between being hydrated enough so that you don’t get sick, and being so hydrated that you need to run to the bathroom several times during the show.
My first tip for this is to pick a song (or two, depending on your bladder) that you’re happy to miss if need be, and use those to take a break.
If there’s a song that you’re not the biggest fan of (mine’s Shake It Off… another long story) that’s the perfect time to do it. The set list is available all over the internet and can help in your planning!
If You Fail to Plan, You Plan to Fail
You’ve got your comfy shoes, you’ve got your hydration sorted, but what else do you need? You’re not out of the woods yet! Here are some of your Taylor Swift Eras Tour must haves:
It might ‘ruin’ your outfit, but make sure you’ve checked all the weather apps and have a lightweight weatherproof jacket with you for before/after – or a poncho! A lot of her concerts in other countries have seen midnight rain and in Australia we are known for experiencing all four seasons in one day. Umbrellas aren't allowed inside, so these will be your saving grace!
Money is also a must – making sure you’ve got enough to cover merch (if someone can get me a hoodie that would be grand) snacks, any taxis/rideshares/trains/trams away from venues and any other incidentals that you might need.
Make sure your phone is fully charged – understandably most people will be recording parts of the concert to keep those memories forever, but there’s nothing worse than leaving somewhere without any phone battery or any idea on how to get home!
…Ready For It?
If, like me, you’ll be living vicariously through your friends and strangers on the internet, don’t despair!
This advice is handy for any gig/festival you’re heading to this season. Making sure you’re comfortable, hydrated and organized will make the world of difference when you’re singing and dancing into the early hours!
And luckily for you – we’ve got the swift shipping sorted! Purchase any of our products before 3pm AEDT for same day dispatch, and with express shipping under 3.5kg it’ll be in your hot little hands faster than any concert ticket you’ve ever purchased!
No sitting around hoping for a miracle on Ticketek Marketplace for you!
You’re on your own kid – good luck, and have fun! I hope it’s everything you’ve imagined in your wildest dreams.
(And if anybody's down for it - I'll take a Medium merch hoodie!)
