Chondroitin Sulfate for Joint Pain and Chondroitin Sulfate for Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis sufferers have turned to supplements containing chondroitin sulfate for relief. The degenerative disease osteoarthritis wears down cartilage at the end of your bones, meaning chondroitin sulfate could have benefits for helping repair damage. Research has suggested that when taking it as a supplement, chondroitin sulfate increases the synthesis of cartilage components and prevents the breakdown of cartilage.

Several studies have shown the potential benefits of chondroitin sulfate for joint pain and function.

One research review of 26 studies showed that chondroitin supplements had benefits for improving the function of joints and pain symptoms, compared with taking a placebo.

Chondroitin Sulfate in Clinical Trials

A review undertaken two years later suggested chondroitin sulfate may slow the progression of osteoarthritis while decreasing the need for anti-inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen. Chondroitin sulfate has been shown to create anti-inflammatory activity within the body.

Clinical trials have also shown a beneficial impact of the use of both chondroitin sulfate and glucosamine sulfate on reducing pain and increasing function while studying patients suffering from osteoarthritis in their knees.

Chondroitin Recommended Dosage

Studies show an 800mg-1200mg dosage of chondroitin sulfate each day is most effective for joint-related benefits. Considered a slow-acting supplement, chondroitin sulfate takes time to build up in the joints, which means its impact may not be seen straight away.

Researchers recommend speaking with a medical professional before adding a supplement with chondroitin sulfate into your routine, as some data suggests it may interact with some other types of medication.
